JANE GRAY
Born
Organising my business so that I
could have more time, I started the part time Painting Course at Leith School
of Art in Sept 2002 which I continued for a further two years.
During that that period I saw my
work begin to develop under Paul Martin’s expert guidance. At the June 2005
year end exhibition at Leith School of Art, I was awarded first prize by the
Leith Gallery, Edinburgh and given the opportunity to exhibit in their ‘New
Faces’ exhibition. I am now one of their
gallery artists.
________
My paintings are developed by applying
thick layers of paint using a mixture of oil and wax which normally result in a
very textured surface. My use of colour has particular
resonance in my work. Subject matter is
based on photographs, time spent on holiday and from images I come across which
give me inspiration for a new painting. It begins with an idea which evolves as
I paint and will often translate into something quite different. My work is as
much about the actual paint surface as it is about the picture itself.
