Statement
If I had to use
a readymade term to best describe my work I would choose ‘POP’. I am influenced
by the information rich world that surrounds us, the world of celebrity, the
Internet, advertising and mass media. It
is a world in which everybody to some degree lives, whether we like it or not.
Using pictures
from magazines, video stills, collected and found materials I create work that
has many layers of information. My work
reflects familiar fragments of the world around us while at the same time
giving the viewer an insight into my world.
Originally
trained as a painter, I rely on my draughtsmanship and aesthetic to make my
work. More recently I have been
exploring new ways of creating work through digital media and how this can be
used to reach a different audience for my work.
I am currently studying for a Masters Degree in Fine Art and am
interested in how the Internet and mass media can create a different audience
for art.
