PETER NARDINI

Peter Nardini

1970 - '75                Glasgow School of Art

1974                                    Cargill Award

1974     - '75             Post Graduate, Glasgow School of Art

Originally focussing on more figurative work Peter has begun to develop his landscapes. Scenes from Glasgow and the surrounding landscape as well as Tuscan hillsides and Swiss lakeside settings feature alongside his most recent paintings of Southern California. The seascape, bright sunlight and sandy beaches that created a simplicity of shape and colour inspired these most recent works. Peter has a very high regard for the paintings of the American artist Edward Hopper and it was the mystery and intrigue created by the presence of figures in his compositions which initially attracted him to Hopper's work. However, he now finds himself drawn more to the drama, simplicity and timelessness of Hopper's landscapes.

A graduate of Glasgow School of Art in 1975, Nardini is a regular exhibitor at the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts; The Royal Scottish Academy; the Scottish Artists and Artist-Craftsmen, Edinburgh; the Paisley Art Institute and several galleries across Scotland and England. His work is held by public collections like the Scottish Arts Council and Lanarkshire Education Collection, as well as in private collections in Europe and the USA.

In 2000 Nardini was invited by Scottish ballet to produce a painting for them, Rehearsal, which now hangs in the Theatre Royal, Glasgow. Several months of observation inspired a series of atmospheric paintings of ballet dancers in their diaphanous costumes in rehearsal rooms suffused with light. Nardini is also a talented singer songwriter, and has been described by Donny O’Rouke as ‘an artist with an eye and an ear for transforming detail, a man who can paint stories and sing pictures.’
