Andrew Gold

Andrew was born in 1974 on the beautiful North East coast of Scotland, however most of his childhood has been spent in the picturesque countryside surrounding Edinburgh.

Andrew’s appreciation of the landscape has developed through a love of looking at and walking in the local hills, absorbing the atmosphere, patterns, textures and colour. Upon leaving school he attended the Leith School of Art which was an inspiration and delight and one could see his work begin to flourish. Andrew progressed to attend the Edinburgh College of Art gaining direct entry to the second year. He graduated in 1998 with honors in Drawing & Painting and with an outstanding sell out degree show. After graduation Andrew embarked upon an exciting course in garden design held at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh whilst continuing to paint and exhibit extensively in several galleries throughout Scotland. Upon completion of the course he made the choice to paint full time.

My new paintings form my response to the landscape surrounding my home in the Pentland Hills. The landscape in this area is personal to me, however, it is my wish and intention that the viewer can make their own interpretations, associations and connections with the pieces.

I like to work on a series of paintings at one time, developing them in tandem. The works are primarily created using oil paint on canvas, however, I also work with water based paints/inks, pigments, gold and silver leaf, pastel and pencil to achieve the variety of marks. As my works develop they become abstracted from their source, leaving more to the imagination.
